Bus Drivers Temporarily Cease Provision of Services for Government's Attention to their Grievences

Buses Parked at Ubungo Bus Stand in Dar es Salaam following drivers boycott
As reported by Channel 10, bus drivers mainly in Dar es Salaam but also in the country side have temporarily halted provision of transportation services leaving many passengers stranded. Passengers travelling country side where most hit, leaving them stranded at the Ubungo Bus Terminal.

There has been associated hint of damages to some of the buses in the early morning, where windows of some buses were broken. Some vehicle owners have expressed their reluctance to have their buses on the road as a result. The boycott by the drivers stems from unaddressed grievances:

1. Most bus drivers do not have salaried contract and/or contracts with the bus owners all together;
2. A new regulation requires them to go for re-training when the time comes to renew their driving licenses. Which at the same time is quite costly at a tune of Tshs. 500,000, which most drivers feel they cannot readily muster.

It is unclear, whether this boycott will creep on to the weekend. And the government is yet to issue any public statement regarding the matter.
